What is the Astronomical League?

The Astronomical League is a non-profit federation of Astronomical Societies and individuals who share a love of the night sky.    We currently have over 250 local amateur astronomy organizations from all across the United States and Members-at-Large, Patrons, and Supporting members from all over the Globe.   These encompass well over 20,000 people making us the largest amateur astronomy organization in the world.

Our basic goal is to encourage an interest in astronomy (and especially amateur astronomy).  We do this through educational and observational programs for the amateur astronomer. Anyone may join us as a Member-at-Large, or through their local astronomical society.  For more information on the League's many Observing Programs and the many other services the League affords it's members please visit the Astronomical League Home Page.  The AL's homepage encompasses not only the services of the League, but also some of the history (check out the story of our Logo while there), the structure and business side and the latest Astronomical news!
